ADE's welcome

It’s hard to believe that three months have passed since I took over as ADE.

I’m loving it, in a scary-rollercoaster kind of way.  I’m absorbing as much as I can as rapidly as I can, seeking to balance forming a strategic broad-brush vision with getting my head across the necessary fine-level details.  The “big picture” – breathtaking in both scale and intricacy – is emerging among the vast amount of detail I am absorbing, while transitioning into the new role.

What do I hope to achieve?  The single thing that drives me is the heartfelt desire to support you in educating our students: by supporting and rewarding your ideas for teaching innovation, by building esteem for education, by celebrating Science Education through Faculty education seminars, by linking pools of innovation, by streamlining processes, by nurturing education research and by pushing for teaching excellence to be properly recognised in promotion pathways.

The depth of talent and dedication, of you who work on all aspects of our students’ education, is overwhelming and deeply inspiring.

Please approach me at any time with your ideas and thoughts. I’d love to hear from you. I’m sure there are plenty of ideas out there on how we can better help our students – it is my role to help you help the students.

I’d like end this welcome with a promise to each of you: to do my utmost to support you all in delivering the highest quality science education.

With all best wishes
David
